RE: Help with Concertone

H&E sounds correct. Be sure the antenna booster is OFF. That is critical. The only time I have seen the sync message was when they put in my newest unit and forgot to hook up the cable to the back of the Concertone unit. There is a splitter in there and one side goes to the TV, the other to the Concertone unit. I had audio but no video.

RE: Tires vs rims question

I just put the same upgrade to D's on my Rockwood without problems. My upgrade was done by Carlisle per my request when I ruined a tire going over a driveway culvert. They said they would replace the tire I ruined and then I asked them how I could upgrade to a D tire. I had to pay the difference in the tire prices ($12 per tire) and mount and balance. It was done at my local Discount Tire. I walked out of the store with 5 new D tires for a total of $165 and Carlisle picked up the rest. My old tires had over 20,000 miles. Talk about a happy camper!!!....(OK now shoot me for praising Carlisle)

RE: Trailer Tire Scam?

Buy a PressurePro tire pressure sensor system so you can monitor the pressure in your trailer tires all the time and your blowouts will come to a halt. Very few tires explode without earlier warning. We just don't get the warning and wait for the big bang.

RE: Rockwood 8315SS Frame Sag?

I had to do a little filing on the rear latch plate but once corrected it has worked well. I have over 20,000 miles on mine and much of it has been on "not so nice roads". Some flexing is expected.

RE: Concertone FIXED!!!!

My third and current unit is a ZX600. I still got a hum coming from my sub-woofer when listening to the TV. Tried filters, rerouting wires away from power sources, etc. Drove me nuts. Finally I just removed the TV from the surround sound by hooking it into the AV1 ports and using the speakers on the TV. We like the sound much better than on the surround for regular TV. It is much clearer and does not have to be as loud at night. Plus we did not like it blasting in our face when we were trying to prepare meals. The front surround speakers are right over the sink and counter area. If we use the DVD player for a movie, we still get surround for that and any type of music.

RE: Rockwood - Quality Concerns

Love my Rockwood. Over 20,000 miles in the first 15 months. Some screws came loose, the Concertone SUCKS, but overall it is G-R-E-A-T. I have moved most of those small walls, even in the back of the cupboards, and created a lot more space. For a lightweight, I don't think you can beat it. My only real gripe is the noise created by the converter/fuse box. I wish they had a separate converter located below the trailer like my old Alumilite had.

RE: TT Length vs. TV Wheelbase

I think I push the limits a little with my Denali and 33' Rockwood. But I have never thought that there was a problem. I have towed all over the west in the last couple of years and sometimes in 30-40 mph cross-winds. Yes I tightened my sway bar down tight, and yes I had to pay attention when trucks flew by me, but never did I feel there was a problem. I believe with a good set-up, all the ratios have little meaning. I've been towing 30+ feet for many years. You learn to anticipate problems.

RE: Lets talk fuel economy and ways to improve.

Most people think you keep your rpm's down to get better mpg. I have on-board electronics on my Denali that calculates you current mileage. I was AMAZED to find that I get 1-2 mpg better running 2800 rpm in 4th than running 1600 rpm in 6th. Sounds crazy but it is true. I talked to engineers at GMC about this. It is because of spark retardation. I used to work hard to keep it in 5 or 6. Now I sit back in 4 and get better mileage. Not sure that it will work the same for everyone but I know it is correct. In the last 20,000 of pulling this trailer I get bored a lot and play with the mileage calculator. It comes out the same every time!

RE: Anyone slowing down to save on gas?

It is really simple for me. 6 mpg @ 70 mph---10 mpg @ 55 mph. More than 50% increase in mileage. Checked it with the on-board electronics many times. I also get to see the sights around me.

RE: cut fule use by 50%

Just slow down. My Denali gets about 6 mpg at 70 mph and nearly 10 at 55 mph. That's better than 50%. No mods necessary. I have checked this many times and it works that way every time.

RE: campgrounds at Joshua tree NP

Best thing to do is boondock just outside the south entrance. There are spots for 100+ units and it's free. Stayed there a year ago for a week.

RE: traveling in the summer with pets

We too were teachers for 34 years. We had this same problem for years. We found a great solution. We retired! Now we travel in the spring and fall when the temperatures are nicer.

RE: Black tank chemicals

I use regular chemicals when we are on long trips. Most seem to work. But before I make my last pull home, I empty all tanks and refill them to about one third full. Then I add borax and pinesol to each for the ride home. When I get home I dump and rinse. Keeps the tanks clean and smelling great.

RE: Would to tow a 5900lb 33' trailer w/ a Tahoe (7800 tow cap)?

We have pulled the combination below over 20,000 miles in the last 15 months. I pulled 10 passes in one day across Nevada and Colorado without a problem. Loaded I come in just over 7500#.

best compact vac

We want to buy a vac for the trailer. We think a canister type, compact, and have a motorized brush bar that will pick up the hair from our two dogs and two cats. What's good for a couple hundred or less.

RE: Favorite aftermarket accessories?

Although I could not live without an electric tongue jack, the other I will never live without is my PressurePro tire monitoring system. Gives me a peace of mind when towing.

Best I can find, there is not a hitch made for the '07 Denali. The receiver is mounted through the bumper, not like the ones pictured above.

RE: Replace Tires or Pressure Pro

I will never tow without a PressurePro again. IMHO most tires don't just blow. They get soft, then hot, then blow. People don't notice them getting soft so they just assume the tire went boom.
